Jury finds defendant guilty of murder & gun charges

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced a jury has found 32-year-old Cortez Foster of Buffalo guilty of one count of murder in the second degree (class "A-I" felony) and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (class "C" violent felony). Jurors rendered their decision Wednesday afternoon after approximately two-and-a-half hours of deliberation following a five-day trial, convicting the defendant of all charges in the indictment against him.
Buffalo man pleads guilty for killing his girlfriend

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 29-year-old Andre C. Whigham, also known as "Dro," of Buffalo, pleaded guilty Thursday morning before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class "B" violent felony).
Higgins: $500,000 in federal funding to support cancer screenings at Community Health Center of Buffalo

Congressman Brian Higgins announced a federal grant totaling $500,000 was awarded to the Community Health Center of Buffalo (CHCB). Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and awarded through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Accelerated Cancer Screening program, the grant is designed to improve access to screenings and early detection in Western New York's underserved communities.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday urged New Yorkers to prepare for dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills beginning Friday and continuing through Saturday. Most regions across the state, including Western and Central New York, Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, Mohawk Valley, North Country, Capital Region and Mid-Hudson, are expected to see temperatures as low as minus-15 degrees and wind chills as low as minus-25 to minus-50 degrees for a period lasting almost 48 hours.

An arctic front will enter Erie County on Thursday evening, bringing strong winds with possible gusts in excess of 40 mph.
