The Buffalo Zoo has teamed up with Zoo Atlanta (Georgia) and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (Ohio) to form a new gorilla troop located at Zoo Atlanta. Amari, the 10-year western lowland gorilla, born at the Buffalo Zoo in 2010, recently traveled with the Zoo Atlanta animal care team from Buffalo to Atlanta.
Flynn allows assistant district attorneys & support staff to work from home due to COVID-19 concerns

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced the majority of the office's staff will not report in-person for work effective Thursday. The Erie County District Attorney's Office made the decision, in consultation with Erie County and its Department of Health, in an effort to reduce the number of employees inside the buildings and prevent the spread of COVID-19. More than 75% of the DA's office employees will be permitted to work from home through the end of the year.
WNY Land Conservancy, design partners seek photos from community that will influence designs for The Riverline

Water Resources Development Act approved, including project added by Higgins addressing harmful algal blooms

Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, announced the House of Representatives approved the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). The legislation, which provides authority for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to carry out water projects, includes a provision led by Higgins that provides $25 million for a demonstration project aimed at eliminating harmful algal blooms in the Great Lakes and other waterways.

Poloncarz statement on passage of 2021 Erie County budget

The Island Dispatch has learned Michael Huntress, vice president of Acquest Development LLC of Amherst, submitted a site plan to the Town of Grand Island for a proposed 1,080,308-square-foot distribution facility project on Long Road. The structure would sit on land its own, along the New York State Thruway I-190 - an area that was under consideration by Amazon for a proposed 3.8 million-square-foot distribution center.

The New York State Department of State on Tuesday announced the completion of a Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) project for Scenic Woods-Bicentennial Park in the Town of Grand Island. The completion of the nearly $600,000 project, which was funded in part with a $197,634 EPF LWRP grant, is helping to transform the town's waterfront into a vibrant destination with public spaces and amenities for residents and visitors.
