The Erie County Department of Health announced the cancellation of scheduled ECDOH COVID-19 vaccination Points-of-Distribution (PODs) for Saturday, Jan. 23, and Monday through Wednesday, Jan. 25-27. This includes locations at Erie Community College South and Erie Community College North.

Erie County restaurants permitted to move back into 'yellow zone'

On Wednesday, New York State Supreme Court Justice the Hon. Henry J. Nowak, J.S.C., granted a preliminary injunction against a New York State Department of Health order placing portions of Erie County into a micro-cluster action initiative "orange zone." He allowed the almost 100 applicants permission to operate under "yellow zone" restrictions "pursuant to the DOH's Interim COVID-19 Guidance."

EPA invites 55 new projects to apply for WIFIA loans to improve water quality

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced 55 new projects in 20 states are being invited to apply for approximately $5.1 billion in Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loans. This funding will help finance over $12 billion in clean water and drinking water infrastructure projects to protect public health and improve water quality in communities across the U.S.

Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz on Monday announced a federal grant totaling $2,680,000 awarded through the Economic Development Administration to support the Buffalo Erie County Industrial Land Development Corp. with the construction of replacement water and sewer systems in order to develop 160 acres of land at the site of the former Bethlehem Steel plant.

Warehouse: Planning Board seeks more information from Acquest Development

During the first quarter of the new year, the Town of Grand Island's Planning Board and Town Board will be asked to review plans and vote on a 1.1-million-square-foot, 45-foot-high warehouse along the New York State Thruway I-190, which some are calling "the largest facility ever built on the Island." At the same time, the group that spoke out against the Amazon project has reemerged in opposition of this project.

The Junior League of Buffalo will award two $2,000 scholarships to graduating female high school seniors who are outstanding leaders in the Western New York community. The scholarships are for post-high school institutions to assist the student in defraying expenses for tuition, books, fees or dormitory.
