Grand Island whistleblower relieved to see bridge replacement underway

An $8.3 million project is in full swing to replace the nearly 70-year-old Beaver Island Parkway Bridge over the I-190 section of the Thruway. Since late March, crews and heavy equipment have been tearing down the old and making way for the new, while motorists who previously took Beaver Island Exit 18B have had to follow a detour to get home, to work or to businesses on the Island since April 3.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn on Wednesday announced 37-year-old Quinton D. Jones of Buffalo and 31-year-old Dijon C. Joyner of Buffalo pleaded guilty Tuesday before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of burglary in the third degree (class "D" felony). Both defendants pleaded guilty to the highest charge in full satisfaction of the charges against them.

Jurors rendered their decision this afternoon after less than an hour of deliberation following a four-day trial that began last week. Bergeron was found guilty of the following offenses:
