Erie County Department of Social Services promotes mobile document upload service

The Erie County Department of Social Services is promoting the use of the mobile document upload for clients receiving temporary assistance, SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid, and/or HEAP (heating assistance). The NYDocSubmit app allows clients to submit documents to ECDSS from their Apple or Android devices.
Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk to be held Saturday-Sunday, July 17-18

The 20th annual Capen Garden Walk will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, July 17-18, rain or shine. This is a free self-guided tour of about 60 private gardens and carefully nurtured public spaces in the neighborhoods surrounding the University at Buffalo South Campus. In addition, some of the private gardens will be open for "Capen by Night" from 8-10 p.m. Saturday, July 17.

Based on data retrieved from the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) by the Erie County Department of Health, nearly nine out of 10 new COVID-19 cases from late May until mid-June were not fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Western New York Land Conservancy completes purchase of Love Road property on Grand Island

The Western New York Land Conservancy has purchased a 44-acre forest on Love Road on Grand Island from the Buffalo Ornithological Society. The purchase was funded by the Greenway Ecological Standing Committee and was supported by the Niagara River Greenway Commission.

In April 2020, the Albright-Knox's Public Art Initiative asked 16 local artists to respond to the initial lockdown requirements of the pandemic. To build community spirit, the museum sent artmaking materials to these artists at their home studios, and they worked to produce a 16-piece collaborative mural. The piece, now located at 43 W. Chippewa St., "speaks to individual and collective experiences of the pandemic."

The Erie County Department of Social Services has announced the opening of the portal for the New York State Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), which will provide income-qualified renters who experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19 with up to 12 months back rent and up to three months future rent.
