Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $21 million in funding awards for 15 Youth Assertive Community Treatment teams. New York is the first state in the nation to enact such teams, which serve children ages 10 to 21, and their families, providing services and support in the home and community settings.

New York Power Authority fishing facilities including the fishing pier at the base of NYPA's Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant will open for the season Friday, April 1, weather and water levels permitting. The fish cleaning station and handicap access elevator at the dam site will also be available if temperatures remain above freezing.

While discussing potential candidates, the committee said it was important to "find an individual who truly encapsulates the spirit of Dyngus Day. Community Missions will hold its 25th annual Sweetheart Dinner, presented by United Healthcare, on Friday, April 1, at Sheraton Niagara Falls. After holding last year's event virtually, this in-person celebration will benefit the agency's crisis services, including the Community Soup Kitchen, food pantry, clothes closet and emergency housing shelter, and will feature more than 100 baskets, gift cards, silent auction items, and games.

New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez announced the start of construction on a $2.8 million highway improvement project on State Route 61, Hyde Park Boulevard, from Lockport Road to State Route 104 in the City of Niagara Falls and the towns of Niagara and Lewiston.

Members of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 268 attended the Niagara County Community College's board of trustees meeting on Tuesday. The chapter, founded in 1985, has donated more than $180,000 to the Niagara County community - including scholarships to high school graduates to attend college.

The number of reported coronavirus cases in Erie and Niagara counties has gone up for the first time in several weeks. As of Wednesday, the seven-day average of cases per a population of 100,000 was 8.25%. The seven-day average percentage of positive test results reported over the past three days was 1.86%. One week ago, those numbers were 6.82% and 1.79%, respectively.

Niagara County has been deemed "StormReady" by the National Weather Service, according to Jonathan Schultz, Niagara County's emergency services director. NWS officials came to the county's public safety building on Tuesday to present the "StormReady" designation.

New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez on Wednesday announced work has begun on a $2.9 million project that will repair or replace 12 culverts in Erie and Niagara counties, "enhancing safety and reducing the risk of flooding along several important roadways for the movement of people and commerce in Western New York."

On March 22 at 2:52 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received notification of a fire alarm activation at the apartment building located at 6824 Plaza Drive in the Town of Wheatfield. A second call received a short time later reported smoke showing on the first floor of the three-floor structure.

The Niagara County Center for Economic Development announced the launch of the new Niagara County Façade Program (NCFP). The NCFP will provide matching grants up to $50,000 for eligible businesses in order to rejuvenate their properties to help bring vibrancy to the central business districts in communities across the county. The county has allocated $3 million for the program through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Catholic Health announced Tuesday it has secured orders from several investors for $58.5 million in bonds to fund construction of its Lockport Memorial Hospital. In addition to the new hospital, which will become a campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Niagara County, the bond financing will support cardiac catheterization room renovations at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, and other small infrastructure projects across the system.

Camp Aspire provides up to 240 children a full camp experience. It focuses on educating children about the importance of blood glucose (blood sugar) management, and empowers them to manage their diabetes actively and independently.
