Niagara County DA announces guilty plea in hate crime case

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Howard J. Murphy, age 61, of the Town of Niagara, entered a guilty plea in County Court to the crime of criminal mischief in the second degree, as a hate crime. Murphy admitted to vandalizing a neighbor's fence on May 16, 2022, by spraypainting onto it a violent message containing a racial slur. The incident occurred just two days after the mass shooting at Topps in Buffalo.
Bilingual business classes offer cash prize

Kathy Hochul announced annual attendance at state parks, historic sites, campgrounds and trails operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation saw a record 79.5 million visits in 2022. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the 2023 dates for "Free Freshwater Fishing Days" in New York. The requirement for a freshwater fishing license is waived during the following six days this year: Feb. 18-19; June 24-25; National Hunting and Fishing Day, Sept. 23; and Nov. 11.

One dead, child injured from fall at Niagara Falls State Park

Before 1 p.m. Monday afternoon, the Niagara Falls Fire Department and New York State Park Police responded to a call for two people possibly in the Niagara Gorge, between Terrapin Point and the Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls State Park. Upon arrival, they were advised two people climbed over a railing and fell from the edge.
