Ball announced two grant opportunities totaling $28.5 million for projects intended to help New York's farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate water and soil quality concerns, and increase on-farm resiliency to climate change.

DEC announces New York's trout harvest opens April 1

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the April 1 start of the spring trout fishing season, which provides excellent angling opportunities thanks to DEC's extensive stocking program and wild trout fisheries. DEC stocks nearly 1.9 million trout in waters statewide, beginning in March and lasting until early June.
Federation of Historical Societies to hold public history program

The Niagara County Federation of Historical Societies invites the public to attend its annual congress at the Sanborn Farm Museum, 2660 Saunders Settlement Road in Sanborn. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. April 29. It will feature three speakers plus lunch catered by Hoover Dairy. The cost is $30.

NFPD recovers drugs, gun, cash

On Thursday, members of the Niagara Falls Police Department narcotics intelligence division conducted a search warrant in the 4000 block of Hyde Park Boulevard. Narcotics detectives located a handgun reported stolen from out of state, plus 47 grams of fentanyl, 91 grams of cocaine, 24 suboxone strips, pills and a large amount of cash.

Catholic Health Laboratory Service Centers are now part of the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York participating provider network. This means Highmark members throughout the region can now use any of the 19 Catholic Heath Laboratory Centers for blood work and other specimen collections without incurring any additional out-of-network fees.

Construction of the new, 60,000-square-foot Lockport Memorial Hospital (LMH) is proceeding at a record pace as a result of Catholic Health's continued collaboration with the New York State Department of Health, local government officials, and its construction partners. Ground was broken in November 2021 for the $62 million facility - the largest investment in eastern Niagara County in recent years - which is expected to open in September 2023.

One item will help meet the city's need for local housing and commercial spaces that will boost pedestrian activity. A second item will help to structurally stabilize a historic property at a state park for future use.

Our health system will continue to provide care to residents throughout Niagara County at our other facilities, as well as take over operations of ENH's urgent care and ambulatory surgery center on Transit Road immediately following the hospital's closure.

Truck flips over in Niagara Falls

On Tuesday at 4:27 p.m., two Niagara Fall Police Department traffic division units, along with B-shift patrol, responded to 2005 Hyde Park Blvd., for an accident involving a City of Niagara Falls plow truck. Upon arrival, officers located the truck on its side in the roadway. The truck's cargo of salt was spilled out and the truck was leaking diesel fuel.

Structure fire in Wheatfield

On March 11 at 8:28 a.m., Niagara County emergency communications received several 911 calls stating that smoke and flames could be seen coming from the prefabricated home on Lot 213 in the Lynch Trailer Park. Responding police and fire units arrived on scene and observed smoke and fire coming from the roof of the structure. No one was inside at the time of the fire.
