More than 70 4-H youth and their families attended an animal safety meeting Wednesday night hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County (CCE-Niagara) and the Niagara County Agricultural Rights Advisory Panel. The meeting was to discuss the upcoming Niagara County Fair and the proper protocols for the 4-H youth to interact with the public in a way that keeps both fairgoers and the animals safe.

Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal announced a section of West Somerset Road, between Hess and Hosmer roads, in the Town of Newfane, will be closed to all motorists, except local traffic, beginning Monday, July 17. Detours signs to redirect motorists will be put in place.

Niagara County Department of Health reports rabid bat in City of North Tonawanda

The Niagara County Department of Health (NCDOH) confirmed a rabid bat on Porter Avenue, City of North Tonawanda, on July 3. Three domestic cats came in contact with a bat that tested positive for rabies. As a result of the incident, the cats received required rabies booster vaccines and must quarantine for a time prescribed in the New York State Sanitary Code.

Niagara Falls attorney sentenced for sexually assaulting 3 victims

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 30-year-old Nicholas D. D'Angelo of Niagara Falls was sentenced this afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Debra Givens to six months in jail followed by 10 years of probation with sex offender conditions. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from custody.

Fourth of July shooting in Niagara Falls

At approximately 8:53 p.m. last night, July 4, a 46-year-old man from Niagara Falls was shot in the arm and the abdomen on 16th Street in Niagara Falls. He was then transported to ECMC. Currently, there is no update on his condition.

Aquarium of Niagara extends hours for summer; introduces family-friendly outdoor yoga

Beginning Saturday, July 1, the Aquarium of Niagara will transition to a summer schedule featuring extended operating hours. Sunday through Thursday, the venue will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the Aquarium of Niagara will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. These extended hours will apply through Sunday, Sept. 3.

Niagara Falls shooting victim dies

The female victim from the shooting that occurred on Monday, June 26, at 4:30 p.m. on 19th Street in Niagara Falls has died as a result of her injuries. The victim is identified as 18-year-old McKenzie Munt of the Tuscarora Indian Reservation.
Niagara University's Kids 'n Arts Camp begins July 10

Registration is now open for Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University's Kids 'n Arts Camp, a unique art and theater-fused five-week program entering its 19th year. Camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, July 10 to Aug. 11. Participants ages 5-12 can attend one or more weeks of camp. Child care is available before and after camp hours.
