Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman on Thursday said the filing of fraudulent unemployment insurance claims using stolen identities continues to be a problem, and his office is working closely with the New York State Department of Labor to address the issue.

Charlie Dieteman hopes his senior year at Niagara Career and Technical Education Center (NCTEC) and Lewiston-Porter High School ends on a high note with his annual cerebral palsy fundraiser. He is selling green rubber bracelets for a dollar for an organization known as Empower. Empower is a premier service provider in Western New York that offers diverse programming and individualized care and support to make people's lives better. Green represents cerebral palsy awareness.
Builders announce scholarship

The William Morehouse Scholarship Applications are available for high school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are pursuing careers in construction-related fields. The scholarship is sponsored by the New York State Builder Association Research and Education Foundation (NYSBA REF) through the donation of William Morehouse, a longtime member and supporter of the building industry in New York.
Niagara County to host agribusiness outreach forum

The Niagara County Center for Economic Development announced it will again host its annual agribusiness outreach forum, although this year's event will be done virtually. The event will be held over two days, March 23 and 25, from 9-11 a.m. each day.

Niagara County leaders frustrated over vaccine allocations

Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh and Director of Public Health Daniel J. Stapleton on Tuesday said it does not appear Niagara County will be getting the amount of vaccine doses it expected from New York state. The county ordered 6,500 doses of vaccine, including 5,000 of Johnson & Johnson. The county is still expecting a small supply of Moderna.
Carolyn Cianciosa Memorial Scholarship available at Niagara County Community College

For more than 20 years, Carolyn Cianciosa was a faculty member at Niagara County Community College. She played a critical role in establishing the radiologic technology program, and took pride in growing rad tech from 13 to 100 students before she retired in 2012.
Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls to serve as mass-vaccination site

The youngest face on the city's Common Council, Tylec was elected to the alderman seat in 2017, having run as an Independent with endorsements from the Democratic Party.
Ten Lives Club puts on photo shoot for cats to make them feel like celebrities

Ten Lives Club, a nonprofit no-kill cat rescue in Western New York, is on a mission to make their rescue cats feel like celebrities. With the help of Moto Pet Photo, the cats were put in hats and really gave it their all strutting their stuff on the catwalk during a special photography session at the shelter.

Niagara County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton on Wednesday announced Niagara County is expecting to receive 6,500 first doses of COVID-19 vaccination next week - by far the most the county has ever received for a single week. The county is expecting 5,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines and 1,500 Moderna that must be dispensed in that week. These doses would nearly double the total amount of vaccine doses Niagara County has received to date.

NCDOH removes close contact quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated individuals, confirms successful rate of full vaccination series

The Niagara County Department of Health announced that, in alignment with the updated U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, quarantine will no longer be required for fully vaccinated people following a close contact exposure. More specifically, asymptomatic, fully vaccinated individuals are no longer required to quarantine within 90 days after the second shot.
Higgins announces passage of legislation supporting local National Heritage Areas

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the House of Representatives approved legislation that includes the National Heritage Area Act, authorizing $750,000 per year for each National Heritage Area, including the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, through fiscal year 2036.
