Niagara County Legislator Rich Andres, chairman of the Economic Development Committee, on Monday announced applications are now available for Niagara County's COVID Relief for Small Business Grant program. Niagara County was awarded $1 million in state Community Development Block Grant CARES Act funding for the program, which will be administered by the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency.

Niagara University's Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement and its College of Education have teamed up with Old Falls Street USA to transform the three-block entertainment district into "Candy Cane Story Lane." For the month of December, children and their families can take a self-guided stroll along the path to read Gregg and Evan Spiridellis' charming story "Are You Grumpy Santa?" On Saturdays, those who answer questions about the story will receive a free treat courtesy of Bryce's Snack Trailer.

Catholic Health broke ground Tuesday on the new Lockport Memorial Hospital, which will become an eastern campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Located off South Transit Road, between Shimer and Ruhlmann roads, the new hospital will be built on a large portion of Hall's Apple Farm, an area landmark that will maintain its longstanding market.

Deposits for Food (D4F) recently made its annual holiday donations to four Niagara County food pantries - just in time for the holidays. Checks totaling $3,000 were presented to Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul of Niagara Falls on Wednesday by D4F founder Angelo Sarkees. Checks were previously given to Wilson Food Pantry and Care-N-Share Pantry of Ransomville.
