Niagara County Department of Motor Vehicles to open Monday, June 22

Niagara Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Thursday announced the Niagara County Department of Motor Vehicles offices in North Tonawanda and Lockport will be open for in-person transactions for Niagara County residents only beginning Monday, June 22. In-person transactions are by appointment only. Residents can begin scheduling their appointments as of 9 a.m. Friday.

Niagara County set to open playgrounds and splash pads at parks

Niagara County will open one playground area in each of Krull, Oppenheim and West Canal parks on Friday, and will open the rest of the playground areas next Friday, Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh said. Splash pads at Krull and Oppenheim are set to open by the end of June.
Catholic Health to resume hospital visitations on June 20

Catholic Health is finalizing a plan to safely welcome visitors back to its hospitals on Saturday, June 20. Current visitor restrictions will remain in effect until that time. New processes and guidelines are being finalized based on directives issued Wednesday by the New York State Department of Health (DOH), which include limited visiting hours, limits on the number of visitors at one time, required facial masking, and health screenings for all visitors.

New York Power Authority fishing piers to open for season June 22

New York Power Authority fishing facilities including the fishing pier at the base of the New York Power Authority's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant will open for the season on Monday, June 22, weather and water levels permitting. The fish cleaning station and handicap access elevator at the dam site will also be available.
Empower has jobs available for those out of work

7 cadets commissioned during ceremonies at Niagara University

Seven Niagara University Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants in the United States Army during ceremonies held May 23 on the Niagara University campus. While this was the 79th consecutive year that members of NU's Purple Eagle Battalion have taken the oath of office, it was the first time the ceremony contained both virtual and face-to-face elements.

As social contact restrictions impacting businesses from the coronavirus pandemic continue to lessen, slowly but surely bars and restaurants throughout the River Region are getting back into operations. Currently in place is phase two, allowing for outdoor, on-premises service of food/alcoholic beverages. Phase three will enable the indoor service of food/alcoholic beverages. It is expected to begin locally on Tuesday, June 16.

Andres said the guidelines initially required face shields, but now have been amended by New York state to include goggles.

SUNY Impact Foundation to match donations in Niagara County Community College student emergency relief fund

The Niagara County Community College Foundation office has continued to work tirelessly to raise funds for our students who are struggling with financial hardships caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. As of June 5, the NCCC Foundation has raised $15,000 to support 150 current students. Each student has received a $100 gift card to help purchase groceries, medicine and other basic necessities.
