Village of Lewiston Treasurer Stephanie Myers presented the Board of Trustees with a preliminary $4.07 million budget for fiscal year 2021-22, which begins June 1. The proposed property tax rate is $7.76 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, which would be a dime increase over the current rate.

The U.S., Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, has released its project findings for the Old Fort Niagara Streambank and Shoreline Erosion Protection Study. A 735-page report represents the federal government's response to the Lake Ontario shoreline erosion problems that threaten historically significant structures at Old Fort Niagara.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced appointments are now available at 10 new state-run mass-vaccination sites across the state, including The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls at 101 Old Falls St. All 10 sites will open Friday, March 19, and will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Each site will have the ability to vaccinate more than 1,000 New Yorkers daily, dependent on supply from the federal government.

Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, announced colleges, universities and institutions of higher education in Erie and Niagara Counties can expect to receive approximately $172.7 million in federal funding through the American Rescue Plan, with the requirement that at least half of the funding is dedicated directly to students.

Niagara County Employment & Training announced applications are being accepted for the department's summer youth employment program (SYEP). In order to be considered for the program, applicants must be a county resident, be between 14-20 years-old (must turn 14 by May 14 and cannot turn 21 until after Aug. 27), and meet income guidelines.

Niagara County Legislator Mike Hill said the New York State Department of Transportation traffic group has completed a safety evaluation and will be making safety improvements to the intersection of Lewiston Road (Route 77) and Griswold Street in the Town of Royalton. The intersection has been the site of numerous accidents, including a serious accident with fatalities this past November.

The Niagara Power Project has a new executive in charge of its operations following the appointment by the New York Power Authority of Daniella Piper to regional manager of Western New York - the top position at NYPA's flagship hydroelectric project in Lewiston. Piper previously served as chief of staff for NYPA President and CEO Gil C. Quiniones and vice president of NYPA's digital transformation office.

Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh and Director of Public Health Daniel J. Stapleton on Tuesday said it does not appear Niagara County will be getting the amount of vaccine doses it expected from New York state. The county ordered 6,500 doses of vaccine, including 5,000 of Johnson & Johnson. The county is still expecting a small supply of Moderna.
