The Niagara County Department of Health is working closely with the three local hospitals, its mental health and substance abuse department, and community partners - forming the Niagara County Community Health Workgroup - to "identify priority areas to build a plan to improve the health of our communities." The workgroup is conducting a collaborative community health assessment to understand the health needs and concerns of the local communities.

Niagara County Community College and Niagara Falls City Schools were part of the statewide "Women's Empowerment Draft" throughout the month of March. The two schools joined 24 other colleges and 30 grade schools to collectively celebrate Women's History Month. The program, created by Alfred University's Art Force 5, uses a pro-sports theme to build enthusiasm for historic icons.

On Thursday, United Way of Greater Niagara and Leadership Niagara announced both agencies will partner through Leadership Niagara's Leadership for the Youth of Niagara Communities program - LYNC - in order to reaffirm both agencies' commitment to Niagara County's youth. The event was held at Platter's Chocolates in North Tonawanda.

Ciox Health, a company that provides health information management services to providers and insurers across the U.S., is working with its customers, including Catholic Health, to notify patients whose information may have been part of an incident involving unauthorized access to a Ciox employee's email account. About 1,300 hospital and primary care patients in Catholic Health are affected and will be receiving a letter from Ciox in the coming days.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $21 million in funding awards for 15 Youth Assertive Community Treatment teams. New York is the first state in the nation to enact such teams, which serve children ages 10 to 21, and their families, providing services and support in the home and community settings.

New York Power Authority fishing facilities including the fishing pier at the base of NYPA's Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant will open for the season Friday, April 1, weather and water levels permitting. Congressman Brian Higgins announced grants totaling over $17.1 million to hospitals in Western New York. The awards were made through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist hospitals with urgent needs related to the national health emergency.

Community Missions will hold its 25th annual Sweetheart Dinner, presented by United Healthcare, on Friday, April 1, at Sheraton Niagara Falls. After holding last year's event virtually, this in-person celebration will benefit the agency's crisis services, including the Community Soup Kitchen, food pantry, clothes closet and emergency housing shelter, and will feature more than 100 baskets, gift cards, silent auction items, and games.

Members of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 268 attended the Niagara County Community College's board of trustees meeting on Tuesday. The chapter, founded in 1985, has donated more than $180,000 to the Niagara County community - including scholarships to high school graduates to attend college.

The number of reported coronavirus cases in Erie and Niagara counties has gone up for the first time in several weeks. As of Wednesday, the seven-day average of cases per a population of 100,000 was 8.25%. The seven-day average percentage of positive test results reported over the past three days was 1.86%. One week ago, those numbers were 6.82% and 1.79%, respectively.

Niagara County has been deemed "StormReady" by the National Weather Service, according to Jonathan Schultz, Niagara County's emergency services director. NWS officials came to the county's public safety building on Tuesday to present the "StormReady" designation.
