Ransomville Speedway's 2022 season is continuing to roll right into the month of August, as VanDeMark Chemicals and JAGG Electrical and Control will be presenting the racing program on Friday, Aug. 5. The racing program will feature a full card of Krown Undercoating Modifieds, Investors Service Sportsman, KiPo Motors Street Stocks, Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks, and Kevin's Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman.

After going virtual the past two years, Catholic Charities Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program's Healthy Baby Festival returns as an in-person event this year. Expectant and young families in Niagara County are invited to attend the festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Hyde Park Splash Pad, 3200 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls.

Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal on Tuesday announced a section of Porter Center Road in the Town of Lewiston will be closed to all motorists, except local traffic, beginning Monday, Aug. 8. Electronic message boards are already in place warning motorists of the pending closure.

The Northwest Jazz Festival in historic Lewiston, NY will take place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 26-27. The event will highlight local, international and North American jazz artists including Sally Terrell, John DiMartino, Stacey Kent, Corinne Mammana, Allison Au, Emmet Cohen and Joey DeFrancesco.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, Niagara Falls Police and Niagara Falls Fire departments responded to an address in the 500 block of 19th Street for a report of an unresponsive male. The 59-year-old male had sustained a gunshot wound and was deceased at the scene.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Niagara River Greenway Fund Standing Committee will hold a meeting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, to vote on funding for a project being proposed by State Parks. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced there will be lifeguard qualifier for position in the Niagara Region of State Parks. Testing - required for anyone wishing to work as a lifeguard at a state park - will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Hamburg High School, 4111 Legion Drive.

The Niagara County Department of Health will offer free COVID-19 vaccine for everyone 6 months of age and older at upcoming clinics. Children ages 6 months to 4 years old may receive the Pfizer vaccine, while children ages 6 months to 5 years old can receive the Moderna vaccine.
