Vehicle reported stolen ends up crashed in Town of Lewiston

At 7:52 a.m. Monday, the Niagara County Communications Center received 911 calls reporting a two-vehicle accident, and one of the involved vehicles also striking a utility pole. The accident was reported to be in the area of Bond Lake on Lower Mountain Road in the Town of Lewiston.

Niagara County Sheriff's Office patrols arrived on location to find one of the vehicles had sheared off a utility pole. The utility pole had the attached lines leaning toward the roadway.

Lewiston Police Department officers arrived on scene to assist.

The investigation revealed that the eastbound vehicle, driven by a female, crossed into the westbound lane and struck the westbound vehicle and continued into the utility pole. The investigation further revealed that the individual was operating a vehicle that was reported stolen on May 5 from a residence on Upper Mountain Road in the Town of Cambria.

Tri-Community EMS was called to evaluate all parties involved, and all were cleared by EMS. While on-scene, the eastbound vehicle driver displayed signs of drug impairment and was taken into custody. She was evaluated by a drug recognition expert and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. This individual was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation (third degree) and multiple vehicle and traffic violations resulting from the accident. She was additionally charged with criminal possession of stolen property (third degree). Additional charges may be pending.

The eastbound vehicle driver was brought to the Niagara County Correctional Facility to await arraignment in CAP Court. She will be given a future court date in the Town of Lewiston.

The section of Lower Mountain Road near Bond Lake was closed for a period of time to repair/replace the utility pole.
