Nusantara Arts Indonesian Culture Center open house & Kartini Day celebration

Nusantara Arts Indonesian Culture Center will host an open house and Kartini Day celebration from 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Nusantara Arts Performance Center, 51 Colonial Circle Buffalo (entrance on Lafayette). The event is free, but advanced ticket registration is encouraged at https://www.nusantaraarts.com/events/openhouse.

A press release stated, “We are thrilled to welcome our community to the grand opening of Nusantara Arts new Indonesian Culture Center in the Elmwood Village, as we host a lively celebration of Indonesian culture and art with our open house and Kartini Day event! Join us for a hands-on experience delving into the vibrant traditions of Javanese and Balinese music and dance, with performances from Nusantara Arts, as well as hands-on workshops to try out the instruments and dance for yourselves.”

Also featured will be performances, workshops, food, puppetry crafts, batik fabric art demonstration, and Wayang kulit shadow puppetry displays.

The press release added, “Join us in commemorating the pioneering spirit of Raden Ajeng Kartini, whose advocacy for women's rights and education continues to inspire generations. Celebrated annually, Kartini Day honors her legacy and contributions to the empowerment of women in Indonesian society.

“Experience the magic of Balinese dance as our performers take the spotlight in vibrant traditional costumes showcasing both graceful movements and expressive gestures. Accompanied by the enchanting melodies of gamelan music, their performance will transport you to the mystical landscapes of Bali.
