Scorching blues/funk guitarist back in Buffalo

Soul of Buffalo Press Release

Award-winning, hard-touring guitar slinger Ana Popovic will perform at the Asbury Arts Center in Buffalo at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.

Popovic (pronounced Popovitch) blends smoking electric funk and slide guitar, jazzy instrumentals and a tight blues groove with soulful, feminine vocals. Combined with an incredible stage presence built from 25 years of touring, Popovic is a force in contemporary blues music, pushing limits, bending genres, and reinventing herself with each new recording.

Called “one helluva a guitar-player” by Bruce Springsteen and nominated for seven Blues Music Awards, Ana was the only female guitar-player on the 2014-18 all-star Experience Hendrix tour, celebrating the music and legacy of Jimi with Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and many more world-renowned players.

Her latest studio release, “Power” (2023, on ArtisteXclusive Records), is a set of songs about survival through faith, with determination and tenacity. Power symbolizes unity, the force which moves the world forward. Upon release, it hit No. 1 on the Billboards Blues Chart and Popovic appeared on the cover of Vintage Guitar and Guitar Player magazine.

Ana and her 6-piece band tour tirelessly, playing major blues, jazz and rock festivals nationally and internationally. Popovic is endorsed by Fender, D'Angelico, Jim Dunlop and DR strings, and has shared headlining stages with B.B. King, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr., among other artists. When not on tour, she resides in Los Angeles.

Ana's last visit to Buffalo was for two nights of shows at The Tralf in October 2021.

Buffalo blues staple David Michael Miller (Miller and the Other Sinners) will open the evening with an acoustic set. Miller and The Other Sinners is a nationally touring southern Soul band bringing a blend of gut bucket delta grit, Memphis soul, gospel spirit and funky rhythm and blues.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. For more, visit babevillebuffalo.com.
