The Lewiston Community Lions Club announces its initiative to distribute ISO-certified eclipse eye glasses for the upcoming celestial event, “ensuring the community's safety during this rare astronomical phenomenon,” the group shared. “As a part of its commitment to the community and in line with our mission of eye/vision health, the Lewiston Lions Club aims to provide essential eye protection to residents interested in observing the solar eclipse safely.”

Distribution will take place at DiMino’s Lewiston Tops on Center Street from 9 a.m. to noon (or while supplies last) on April 6-7. The Lewiston Community Lions Club will give these eclipse eye glasses away, free of charge, to residents of all ages.

"We are thrilled to offer this service to our community," said Regina Cecconi, past district governor and treasurer of the Lewiston Community Lions Club. "Solar eclipses are breathtaking events, but it's crucial to observe them safely to protect our eyes. By providing eclipse eyeglasses, we hope to make this experience accessible to everyone while prioritizing eye safety."

The press release stated, “The eclipse glasses provide a high-quality special lens that filters the sun's harmful infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) rays for you to prevent retinal damage and maximize the retention of solar images in the visible spectrum of the eclipse. The solar eclipse glasses have been independently tested by the latest standard ISO 12312-2:2015(E) of the ICS laboratory and meet international standards, passed CE and ISO certification, and meet transmission requirements.

“The Lewiston Lions Club encourages all residents planning to view the upcoming solar eclipse to obtain certified eye protection. Solar eclipses occur infrequently, making each event a unique opportunity to witness the wonders of the universe. By ensuring that the community has access to eclipse eyeglasses, the Lewiston Lions Club hopes to facilitate a memorable and safe viewing experience for all.”
