Lewiston Community Lions receives donations, support for 'Village of Trees'

The Lewiston Community Lions recognized two significant donations to its “Village of Trees” initiative at a special meeting Tuesday at the Griffon Gastropub. Carol Perry, president of the New York State and Bermuda Lions Foundation, represented a $4,400 matching grant; while Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh and Legislator Irene Myers were on hand to recognize $2,000 in awarded funding.

As part of the “Village of Trees,” the Lewiston Community Lions intends to plant 11 trees and add two premium benches to the municipality. The project’s total cost is north of $9,000.

The service group will host its annual Earth Day cleanup on Saturday, April 20, starting at the Marilyn Toohey Park pavilion behind the Red Brick Municipal Building. Volunteers will gather for coffee and doughnuts starting at 8 a.m. Instructions and routes will be provided before the activity commences at 9:30 a.m. A hot dog lunch will follow at 11 a.m.
