Niagara County Legislator Nemi graduates from County Government Institute

Niagara County Legislator Tony Nemi has graduated from the County Government Institute (CGI), the preeminent certification and education program for county officials in New York state. CGI is a joint educational program between the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) and the Cornell University Community and Regional Development Institute.

 CGI instructors are NYSAC staff, county leaders, and Cornell faculty members who are experts in local government structure and issues. County leaders who graduate from CGI have earned a certification that demonstrates their dedication to CGI’s three pillars of good government: leadership, integrity and accountability.

Nemi’s accomplishment was recognized at last month’s 2024 NYSAC legislative conference held in Albany.

“CGI has been instrumental in helping me stay current on a broad array of issues and topics that go right to the nuts and bolts of local government operations,” Nemi said. “I am convinced that CGI has made a more effective legislator for those I represent.”

The core CGI curriculum requires courses on building consensus, financial management, ethics, management, and the foundations of county government. CGI courses are offered at NYSAC’s fall seminar (September), legislative conference (February), and finance school (May). Courses are also offered regionally throughout the year, in addition to webinars and recorded trainings. Officials must complete 34 credit hours of instruction to graduate.
