Obituary: Peter Gornicki

Peter Gornicki, of Grand Island, joined our heavenly father on Oct. 6, 2023.

He was the cherished husband of 31 years to Charlene Gornicki; the beloved father of Victoria (Dan Fajerstein) Sawma and Michele (Tim) Threlkeld, and stepfather to Michelle (Matt) Cryer and the late Mark Ivey; the loving grandfather of Juliana Sawma, the late Chloe Sawma, Timothy Threlkeld, Adam Threlkeld, Laura Threlkeld, James (Sydney) Cryer, Jacob Cryer and Jocelyn Cryer; the son of the late Michael and Helen Gornicki; and the brother of Janie Wisniewski, Judie (Roger) Ketch and the late Rita (Richard) Capizzi.

He was a prayerful man, saying his beloved rosary two times a day. A passionate “do-it-yourselfer,” Peter could repair anything, was an avid gardener, and loved animals. He honorably served in the Army National Guard. He loved his daily routine of working out, and continued to do so with such discipline that he won his health club “member of the month” award – and this was at age 82.

Relatives and friends may visit Lombardo Funeral Home (Northtowns Chapel), 885 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst (near Eggert Road), from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, where the funeral service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SPCA and the Salvation Army.
