The Diocese of Buffalo Office of Communications reports Father David J. Peter died Monday, April 17, at Brothers of Mercy, Clarence.
A wake will be held Friday, April 21, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Lester H. Wedekindt Inc. Funeral Home, 3290 Delaware Ave. (at Eiseman Ave.), Kenmore.
Father Peter will lie-in-state at St. Stephen R.C. Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Saturday, April 22, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. A funeral will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen with concelebrants Bishop Edward M. Grosz, auxiliary bishop of Buffalo.
Burial will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore.
Father Peter was born Sept. 26, 1940, in Buffalo, the son of the late John and Isabel (Nassief) Peter. He is survived by his brother Norman and sisters Carol Peter-Tabone and Lorraine Sebian.
He was ordained May 21, 1966, at St. Joseph New Cathedral, Buffalo, by Bishop Stanislaus J. Brzana. Among his assignments, he was pastor at Our Lady of the Rosary in Niagara Falls from 2000 until his retirement June 1, 2002. Father Peter frequently assisted at St. Stephen's parish.
