George Frederick Brant, age 92, formerly of Grand Island and currently of Findlay, Ohio, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Silver Creek May 10, 1923, to the late John and Edna Belle (Harold) Brant. On May 27, 1950, he married Carol Park, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 2003.
He retired in 1992 as the plant supervisor and engineer from International Filler in North Tonawanda. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Findlay. He was an accomplished woodworker and created stained glass windows, fine furniture and beloved legacy pieces for family members. After moving to Findlay at age 80, George single-handedly refurbished all the kneelers in the St. Michael's Downtown Church.
He is survived by daughters: Joanne (James Leonard) Brant of Findlay, Barbara (Robert Mackenzie) Brant of Bremerton, Washington, and Susan (Tom) Seay of Grand Island. He has seven grandchildren: Danny George Crumpler (deceased), Brian Ashley Vazquez, James Robert (Cassidy) Crumpler, Julie Ann (Aaron Weinstein) Vazquez, Tommy Carl (Breanne) Seay Jr., Michael Phillip Seay, and Geoffrey Brant Hill, as well as granddaughter-in-law Vicky Holdman. His three great-grandchildren are Jayden, Melania and Beckham Seay. Other survivors include his brothers: Edward H. (Sandy) Brant of Angola, and Vincent (Irene) Brant of Bliss, and a sister, Marion M. (David) Berns of Angola.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Harry E. Brant, Leonard M. Brant and Robert A. Brant, and sister: Ida Mae Greenberg.
Visitation was held Feb. 20 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Church Downtown. Monsignor Michael Hohenbrink will officiate. Interment at a later date in Whitehaven Cemetery, Grand Island.
