Celebrate with the Peruvian penguins at the Aquarium of Niagara from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21 and 22.
These loveable flightless birds are among the Aquarium of Niagara's most popular residents and, on this "Penguin Days" weekend, they'll participate in a penguin "meet and greet" encounter. Of course, they will be dressed formally for the occasion, but guests can dress casually.
Experienced exhibit department staff members will answer questions about these fun and fascinating birds during regular penguin encounters in the second floor community room. "Beaker," the Aquarium of Niagara's penguin mascot, will greet visitors from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the "Who Do You Sea" area.
Challenge your artistic skills by participating in the second annual penguin drawing contest. One winner will receive a "plethora of penguin prizes." Children can make their own penguin craft, visit the "Sea N Do" Shack and learn more sustainable seafood.
Children can visit the Penguin Interactive Zone to learn how being green not only helps the environment, but penguins, too. Build a penguin nest with better materials and learn more about penguin conservation while exploring the penguin rescue center.
There will be penguin gifts available for purchase, including original penguin art. Those wishing to sponsor an Aquarium of Niagara penguin for one year can purchase "Adopt-a-penguin" certificates.
Other exhibits include seahorses, poison dart frogs, harbor seals and sharks. The Aquarium of Niagara's regular schedule of California sea lion demonstrations and harbor seal feedings will continue as usual throughout the weekend.
Penguin encounters are included in regular admission of $10.50 for adults, $9.25 for seniors, $6.75 for children, and free for children ages 2 and under. Members are free. Admission to penguin encounters will be determined by availability of tickets and space.
