State Sen. Marc Panepinto released the following statement on the upcoming deadline for the Enhanced STAR school property tax exemption:

"The Enhanced STAR exemption provides much-needed economic relief for seniors against New York's crushing property tax burden. Every year, far too many of these homeowners are either unaware or forget to take advantage of this state program. As the March 1 deadline approaches, my office is available to help any and every senior who needs further information regarding the forms or registration process."

•Apply for Enhanced STAR here: http://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/star/apply.htm

•If a resident owns a primary residence and turns 65 or older at any time during the 2015 calendar year, he may qualify for the Enhanced STAR exemption.

•The enhanced exemption can be more than twice the value of the Basic STAR exemption.

•For properties jointly owned by spouses or siblings, eligibility is based on the combined income of the owners.

•If a resident exceeded $83,300 in income for tax year 2014, she may still be eligible to receive the Basic STAR exemption.

For more information on the Enhanced STAR exemption, residents of the 60th Senate District can contact Panepinto's district office by email at [email protected] or phone at 716-854-8705.
