YMCA Buffalo Niagara has announced the 118th running of the YMCA "Turkey Trot" is officially sold out. Race capacity was again set at 14,000 participants in order to adhere to fire code regulations inside the Buffalo Convention Center, where the race's post-party and awards ceremony takes place.

"Over the past decade, the popularity of our event has grown every year. Our participants recognize that, and to be sure they get an entry before our cap is reached, they are entering earlier. We're excited to see such overwhelming support for our event, and wish we didn't have constraints that force us to limit the size of the field," said race director Tom Donnelly.

Held each Thanksgiving morning on Delaware Avenue, this event draws serious runners and walkers alike, many of which are adorned in colorful and creative costumes, making the event quite a spectacle. A time-honored tradition in Buffalo, the YMCA "Turkey Trot" has never been cancelled, not even for a freak snowstorm in 2000 when Mayor Anthony Masiello ordered the streets be cleared for the race.

"Having the title of longest consecutively run footrace in North America is something we're quite proud of. This is a tradition, much like Thanksgiving, that everyone looks forward to, and we're thrilled people are so excited to be with us that morning," said Kathy Romanowski, YMCA Buffalo Niagara's communications director.
