Congressman Brian Higgins, NY-26, is set to host Academy Night 2013, an opportunity for high school students and their families, as well as school administrators and counselors, to find out more about military academy institutions, programs and the application process that surrounds them.

Local students will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the Army ROTC. Each representative will be able to answer questions and provide students with information relative to their respective school.

Academy Night 2013 will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Cheektowaga Central High School, 3600 Union Road.

Service Academy appointments are made by the president of the United States based on congressional and/or military nominations. Each year, Higgins appoints an academy advisory board made up of Western New York veterans and community leaders to interview all applicants and make recommendations.

The deadline for prospective student applications is Nov. 15.
