The Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo will present Tango Fire in "Flames of Desire" on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre, located at the Center for the Arts, North Campus. Tango Fire takes the audience on a journey through tango - tracing its roots from the barrios of Buenos Aires into cabaret before moving through the decades to showcase tango's growing popularity as a contemporary dance form. The Tango Fire Company features Argentina's new generation of tango dancers, including five recent World Tango Champions, in a program choreographed by Argentina's hottest young choreographer, German Cornejo. Quarteto Fuego led by violinist Estefani Corsini accompanies the company's 10 dancers on stage.
As tango's popularity on the contemporary entertainment scene increases, the Tango Fire Company of Buenos Aires has cemented a reputation internationally as one of the most innovative and exciting practitioners of contemporary tango in the world. Its exciting productions are set against the musical backdrop of Astor Piazzolla, Mores, Gardel, Rodriguez and other tango masters.
Quarteto Fuego, the company's quartet of musicians, provides the live music on the traditional instruments of tango, double bass, piano, violin and bandoneón. The band and dancers are accompanied by one of Argentina's young singers, Jesus Hidalgo.
