Belmont Housing Resources for WNY has received a $10,000 charitable donation from the First Niagara Foundation for Belmont Housing's Financial Education and Housing Counseling programs.

"Belmont Housing is grateful for First Niagara's contribution that is targeted to services that we offer free to area residents to help them successfully manage day-to-day financial skills and to secure quality housing," said Elizabeth Huckabone, Belmont Housing president. "We are proud to add new programs for high school students, in addition to the workshops, classes and one-to-one counseling programs we offer annually to many thousands of area individuals and families."

In 2013, Belmont Housing extended its financial education programs to two schools in Buffalo: Bennett High School and the Charter School for Applied Technologies. Presentations to students focused on basics, such as opening a bank account, saving on a regular basis, budgeting, and on effective renter/landlord communication.

"First Niagara believes in making our community a better place," said Buford Sears, First Niagara Buffalo market executive. "We are proud to partner with Belmont Housing Resources to provide educational opportunities for local youth and families to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for financial independence and success."

Belmont Housing has been producing affordable housing opportunities for families, seniors and special needs individuals since 1977. Through its offices in Buffalo, Hamburg and North Tonawanda, it administers a variety of housing and community development programs for municipalities, develops and manages affordable housing, and provides home ownership counseling.
