Record-setting opening-night crowd witnesses Brachmann, Friesen, Morris, Leone, Torres take feature wins

It was an amazing start to the 56th season opener at Ransomville Speedway. Pistide, 115 cars and a packed grandstand made this season start one for the record books. Suffice to say, Stan Friesen would be proud.

Chad Brachmann of Sanborn captured the win on opening night in the Mighty Taco Modifieds. Brachmann piloted his Mighty Taco-sponsored No. 3 to the top spot at the drop of the green and never looked back.

Brachmann is setting a championship pace as he captured his third win in three different area codes in the very short 2013 season. He took the lead from the outside pole position with fast timer Erick Rudolph in tow. Rudolph would battle with Ryan Susice through the remainder of the 30-lap main with Susice taking the runner-up position on lap 20. Susice would come home in second followed by Rudolph, defending champion Pete Bicknell, and Phil Vigneri Jr.

It was an amazing race in the Investor's Services Sportsman main. Three strong - Scott George, Jesse Cotriss, and James Michael Friesen - put on a show that brought the crowd to its feet. When the checkered flew, it was Friesen in victory lane taking the opening night's feature main. Friesen went from third to first on lap eight as he used a high-low switch to take the top spot.

Friesen would set the pace through the remaining distance and take the big win. Cotriss stayed close to Friesen, but would have to settle for second followed by defending champion Don Spatorico, Nate Reynolds and Boyd MacTavish. A total of 23 cars took the initial green in the Sportsman main event.

Alex Morris of Niagara Falls captured the win in the 20-lap Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstock feature main. After setting fast time the week prior, the track's defending champion backed up his title of a year ago with another feature win. Morris took the lead at the drop of the green and held it through the 20 circuits. Pat Dell was able to pull in on the back bumper of the Morris machine in the closing laps, but to no avail as Morris held on for the win.

Dell would come home in second aboard his 14p, followed by Webb Nashwinter, Jesse Johnston and Jason Meyer. A 19-car field took the initial green.

Chris Leone of Niagara Falls took top honors aboard the 12-lap FindItQuick.com Fireball feature main. Leone used the outside lane to take the initial lead with fast timer Pat O'Keefe in tow. While Leone would not put a ton of distance between himself and O'Keefe, he would comfortably take the win. O'Keefe was able to bring home the second-place position despite a wild rollover in the final practice session at the annual test, tune and time.

Defending champion Jim Stone came home in third, followed by Zack Sam and Chris Lederhouse.

Jose Torres of Niagara Falls took top honors aboard the Gippster's Collision 4 Bangers 12-lap feature main. Torres started in the third position and quickly established himself as a contender. Using a daring move to the low side of lap nine, Torres took the point position away from Mike Hossfeld going into turn one. Torres would hold off Hossfeld in the closing laps and take the initial win of the 2013 season.

A total of 31 cars took the initial green in the Gippster's Collision 4 Bangers feature main. Rookie contender Brett Senek of Ransomville would lead laps one through three prior to making contact with the turn-two concrete barrier and suffering a flat tire as a result.

Senek, a graduate of the go-kart ranks, would find his night end early as he headed pitside. Hossfeld inherited the lead on lap four and held it through lap nine prior to losing the top spot to Jose Torres. Torres would lead the remaining laps and take the win.
