March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month - both nationally and in Niagara County. To commemorate this month, Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara program participant Laura Welder and her mom, Jen, of Youngstown, accepted a proclamation from the Niagara County Legislature on Tuesday, March 19.

Both Laura and Jen addressed the assembly of elected officials and Niagara County department heads on behalf of the more than 600 individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities who receive programs and services through Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara.

After receiving the proclamation from the community services committee chairman, Wm. Keith McNall of the 13th District, Laura reflected on her time spent in the day program where she enjoys helping others by volunteering in area nursing homes and delivering meals.
