Martha Haseley, now of Lewiston, will present a program titled "Memories of Muckland" when the Historical Society of North German Settlements meets at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Wheatfield Community Center.

Martha's father, Jonas Haseley, had a piece of muckland on his farm on Upper Mountain Road, which provided work for many local people. Muck is a type of soil, rich in peat moss, which makes it especially suited to growing vegetables.
