In response to patron requests, the Village Bake Shoppe is now serving sandwiches. Five different paninis are on the menu, and include "The Meltdown," a Cuban, the "Gucci" grilled cheese, ham and mozzarella, and turkey and bacon club.
"We wanted to offer another taste for customers," said owner Mike Fiore.
"The Cuban" has black forest ham, barbecue pulled pork, mayo, Dijon mustard, dill pickle and Swiss cheese on sourdough or wheat berry. "The Meltdown" has mozzarella, cheddar and smoked Gouda cheeses, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil, turkey or ham on a puff pastry. The "Gucci" grilled cheese is your choice of three cheeses (Gouda, cheddar, mozzarella or Swiss), with optional sun-dried tomatoes and bacon on sourdough or wheat berry.
The Village Bake Shoppe also offers three daily soups (including chili and French onion), so customers can take advantage of soup and sandwich lunch specials. Additionally, the bakery is debuting a side dish it calls "carrot slaw," which is shredded, mixed carrots, dressings and dried cranberries.
The large paninis range in price from $6.99 to $9.99. They are available daily from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. (See price list below.)
Soup, available all day, is $3.50 for a bowl.
"We are using the best ingredients," Fiore said. "We've researched and developed for the last six to eight months what would be the best quality, best taste for our customers."
He said he plans to offer salads and "make-your-own" paninis in the near future.
