Registration under way for diabetes prevention programming at local YMCAsby jmaloni
YMCA Buffalo Niagara has successfully been assisting hundreds of Western New Yorkers for more than a year now in the battle with diabetes. By taking part in a 16-week diabetes prevention program, participants have seen a positive change in their health.
Registration is currently under way for the next session, which begins in January 2013. This one-hour program will be offered at the Southtowns Family YMCA (1620 Southwestern Blvd, West Seneca); Ken-Ton Family YMCA (535 Belmont, Kenmore); and the new Independent Health Family Branch YMCA (150 Tech Drive, Amherst, adjacent to ECC North Campus).
Each session covers diet, exercise, and behavior modification. Participants will meet in a group setting over the course of 16 weeks. Personal lifestyle goals will be set and worked toward for each individual.
A doctor's referral is needed to partake in the program. To register, call the YMCA at 716-565-6000, ext. 128. Each session, the available spots fill up quickly, so early registration is recommended.
BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and Independent Health will both provide reimbursement for the program, with BlueCross BlueShield and Univera paying 100 percent for members and in part by Independent Health subscribers.
