One Facebook "like" equals a $1 donation this month as the Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS partners with Headway of Western New York Inc. to help make a difference in the lives of those who need it most this holiday season. For every new "like" the Headway of WNY fan page (http://www.facebook.com/headwayofwny) receives now through Dec. 31, the Taste will make a $1 donation, up to $1,500, to Headway.
"The Taste has a long tradition of giving back to local organizations that help to make a difference in the Western New York community," said Chris Hitchcock, 2012 Taste chairman. "My wife, Darcy, and I have been personally touched by the Headway organization. Sadly, we learned firsthand the life-changing effects of head injuries in 2011 when our son was struck by a car and sustained a traumatic brain injury. We knew we had to learn to make informed decisions regarding our son's care and treatment. Darcy and I were so thankful that Headway was there for us when we needed them most."
In addition to the donation, the Taste and Headway are also highlighting various ways people can prevent head injury on their Facebook pages. Every 21 seconds, someone in the U.S. sustains a traumatic brain injury. And, each year 230,000 persons are hospitalized with traumatic brain injury and survive. The effects can be devastating for the survivors, as well as their families and friends. Since 1985, Headway has been there to help offering volunteer support, advocacy and resource organization.
Headway, an affiliate of People Inc., is a volunteer support, advocacy and resource organization that was founded in 1985 by caring families and individuals who have survived brain injury and other disabilities.
