Mike Amodeo and Mark Grisanti won their primary elections last Thursday for the New York State Senate's 60th District, which includes Grand Island.

Grisanti, the incumbent Republican, beat a challenge by Kevin Stocker with 60 percent of the vote. Amodeo (58 percent), the endorsed Democrat, defeated Chuck Swanick (28 percent) and Al Coppola (15 percent) to become the Democratic candidate in the general election.

Amodeo said, "When this campaign started, there were a lot of naysayers, people who thought that I had no chance to win. But as soon as I started talking to the voters and the constituents who live in this district, I realized that I was doing the right thing ... I am proud to be the choice of the Democratic voters of the 60th District to represent them in the State Senate."

"We are humbled and overwhelmed for all the support from last week's primary election results," Grisanti said to supporters. "We could not have done this without your help."
