Amy Hope Witryol, D-Lewiston, announced her candidacy for the 62nd district state senate seat on March 30. In Niagara Falls, Witryol called on State Sen. George Maziarz to break the logjam between the state and the Seneca nation for $50 million-PLUS in casino funds owed Niagara Falls.

Witryol said, "George Maziarz should immediately introduce and pass legislation directing the state comptroller to advance the more than $50 million in casino funds due to the City of Niagara Falls, the hospital, schools, the tourism agency and the airport. If I were representing Niagara Falls or any part of Niagara County, legislation to provide Niagara Falls its fair share would have been passed long ago."

She went on to say, "Maziarz has dodged his responsibility for the failure of the casino agreement he's taken credit for in the past. Senator Maziarz is quick to blame his failure on others. That's a pattern we've seen repeating itself over and over during his 18 years in office."
