Todd Kollman of Columbus, Texas, wanted to ask his girlfriend, Heather Walston, also from Texas, to marry him so he called, who else? The Aquarium of Niagara!
He had never been to Niagara Falls before, but he had heard it was known as the Honeymoon Capital of the World and what better location for popping the question? They arrived late Friday night, Nov. 5, and left Saturday night, Nov. 6.
Before the couple arrived, Kollman called to ask if it were possible to have a diver in the main pool that could hold up a sign underwater that would read: "Todd loves Heather, forever!" No problem. The Aquarium of Niagara team put their heads together and came up with a plan. A sign was made, indelible, of course; a staff member arranged for the diver to be in the pool after the California sea lion show. There were sea lion decals on one window of the pool where Todd could expect the volunteer diver to be; another decal was on a bench in front of the window where he and Heather would sit.
When the time came, Todd got down on one knee, surprising his fiancée who, of course said "yes!" His proposal was totally unexpected and a huge surprise to Heather. She and her fiancé won't soon forget how and where they became engaged.
