VA Western New York Healthcare System will host a Native American Month Awareness event at the Buffalo site, 3495 Bailey Ave., Buffalo, at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in Freedom Hall, Room 301.

The Historical Society of Erie and Niagara Counties will present the story of Red Jacket, told by Tara Lyons. Red Jacket was a Native American orator and chief of the Seneca Wolf Clan. He helped secure some Seneca territory in New York state and was given a "Peace Medal" by George Washington that is now in possession of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society.

The festivities will also include cultural singing, dancing, and drumming with Sheldon Sundown, who represents the OAHIIO organization. The event is free and open to the public.
