Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara is conducting a new poster contest for Niagara County students in grades four through 12, titled "We're Better Together" -- Celebrating the Abilities of People with Disabilities, sponsored by Niagara County's Federal Credit Union.

Entrants are asked to create a poster incorporating the theme "We're Better Together" and one of four themes: 1) How have you or someone you know adapted to living with a disability; 2) Show your vision of a community that includes people with disabilities; 3) How do students with and without disabilities value each other, or 4) Characteristics of schools that make all students feel valued.

Any media may be used to create a color or black/white flat or two-dimensional effect (paint, colored pencils, crayon or other materials). No computer-generated images are accepted.

Size requirements are 8-1/2-inch by 11-inch minimum up to 12-inch by 18-inch.  The words "We're Better Together" must be included somewhere on the poster. Posters will be judged on: disability awareness message, visual effectiveness, originality and universal appeal.

In developing the poster, the agency's website is an effective resource.

Posters are due by 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 to: Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara, Attn: Poster Contest, 1555 Fashion Outlet Blvd., LPO Box 360, Niagara Falls, NY 14304-0360. Posters may be delivered in person, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Poster fronts should contain no identifying marks. Instead, the artist's full name, home address/phone number, grade level, school, and principal's name/phone number must be placed in an envelope and attached to the back of the poster.  All entries become the property of the agency.

All winners will receive savings bonds courtesy of Niagara County's Federal Credit Union. The prizes for elementary, middle and senior high school will be awarded during the annual Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara Evening of Arts and Entertainment, Friday, Nov. 12, at Niagara Falls High School. The event is open to the public ($2 admission charge).
