Norris announces call for submission for annual high school Memorial Day poster contest

Assemblyman Mike Norris is encouraging high school students to participate in his annual Memorial Day poster contest to honor the contribution of this nation’s military and veterans.

The theme of the poster contest is “Freedom Isn’t Free,” however, students are welcome to celebrate the service of military heroes and veterans using their creativity.

“As high school students prepare for their future, this contest is a wonderful opportunity to take stock of the privileges we are afforded by our military and veterans,” Norris said. “Their incredible service to our nation has allowed the rest of us to live freely in the greatest nation on earth and pursue our dreams, whether those be in higher education, starting a career, having a family or also choosing to serve in our armed forces. Because of the bravery of our military, we have these choices, but it is important to remember that our freedom is not free. It has come at a precious cost. Memorial Day is a day to remember the true cost of our freedom and, by hosting this annual art contest, I am inviting students to join me in remembering this sacrifice and to honor it in a new creative way for our community.”

All submissions must be received at the assemblyman’s office at 8180 Main St., Clarence, by close of business on Friday, May 17. Physical posters should be sized on 8-by-14-inch paper or 11-by-17-inch paper, yet they can be created using any artistic medium including digital (although they should be printed before they are submitted).
