Erie County is actively recruiting community-minded individuals to serve as members on the Food Policy Council (FPC). The ideal applicant resides in Erie County and shares the common mission of the FPC – to advocate for an equitable and sustainable food system. The FPC is looking for individuals to serve on the council who have professional experience in fields related to food production, distribution, retail, procurement and/or education.

The FPC is made up of representatives within the Erie County food system who collaborate to build a sustainable and just food system through policy recommendations, awareness, education and advocacy. Candidates will attend monthly meetings and take an active role in providing expertise on their sector of the food system. Members work together with Erie County representatives to advance constituent-driven policy and legislation.

Individual skills that will benefit the FPC include analytical thinking, knowledge of agricultural legislation, timely communication, and the ability to fulfill independent assignments as needed. Reference and review materials are provided. Additional descriptions of FPC member responsibilities and desired skills can be reviewed in the council member duties description document.

Council member seat terms will be limited to three years, with the option to reapply at the end of the term. Council members can serve two consecutive terms with the option to reapply but must take a one-year break before reapplying through the standard application process. Members are expected to serve on at least one, but not more than two standing committees or working groups, during each term served.

FPC council membership is subject to Erie County policies and procedures and the FPC's conflict of interest policy. We encourage any Erie County resident interested in supporting our county's food system to submit their resume by April 18, 2024, to Colette McDonald, Food Policy Council coordinator, at [email protected].

For more information, contact Colette at [email protected] or 716-858-8172.
