NCSO to participate on STOP-DWI campaign over St. Patrick's Day weekend

Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti announced Niagara County law enforcement agencies will participate in a special effort to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving.

In a combined effort to stop impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives, law enforcement officers across New York state will take to the roads. The statewide STOP-DWI high-visibility engagement campaign efforts start March 15 and will end March 17. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office, as well as law enforcement agencies across Niagara County, will be out in force in this coordinated effort to reduce the number of impaired driving-related injuries and death.

The STOP-DWI St. Patrick's Day weekend high-visibility engagement campaign is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. The statewide STOP-DWI high-visibility engagement campaign also targets Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, holiday season, and Super Bowl weekend. Additionally, there will concentrated efforts on April 20 and July 10. During these times, the focus of our community engagement will be drug-impaired driving.

While STOP-DWI efforts across New York have led to significant reductions in the numbers of alcohol- and drug-related fatalities, still too many lives are being lost because of crashes caused by drunk or impaired drivers.

Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI high-visibility engagement campaign aim to further reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving.
