The Niagara County Office for the Aging is currently accepting nominations for the 2024 Niagara County Senior Citizen of the Year. Anyone who is a Niagara County resident and at least 60 years of age is eligible, and anyone can nominate them.

“The purpose of this award is to recognize a senior citizen who is making contribution to enhancing the lives of our older citizens in Niagara County,” said Darlene DiCarlo, director of OFA. “Those contributions can come in many forms as an advocate, a volunteer or some other type of service. We have been able to honor some very special people over the years, and we look forward to receiving this year’s nominations.”

DiCarlo said it is very simple to nominate someone. OFA just needs the nominee's name and contact information, the name and contact information of the nominating person or group, and a description of why the nominee should receive this distinguished award. All nominations must be submitted to OFA by Friday, Feb. 23. Nominations can be submitted by mail or in person to the Office for the Aging, 111 Main St., Suite 101, Lockport, NY, 14094; or by email at [email protected]. Please contact OFA at 716-438-3030 if you have any questions.

The winner will be recognized by the New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) in person in Albany on May 14, and at a future meeting of the Niagara County Legislature.
