UPDATE: Cab driver robbery in Niagara Falls

UPDATE: Niagara Falls Police Department criminal investigation division detectives made an arrest for the robbery of a cab driver that occurred on Monday afternoon in the 1700 block of Falls Street.

On Thursday evening, detectives arrested 28-year-old Niagara Falls man and charged him with one count of robbery in the first degree and one count of assault in the second degree. This individual was arraigned Friday morning in Niagara Falls City Court and given a bail of $100,000 cash / $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to Niagara Falls City Court.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Falls Street for a report of the robbery of a cab driver. The 36-year-old driver stated that, after picking up a customer and driving him to the 1700 block of Falls Street, the customer attempted to rob the cab driver.

During the struggle to steal property from the cab driver, the customer used a knife that he had with him and stabbed the cab driver twice in the leg before fleeing on foot. The driver sustained minor injuries, which were treated at the scene. The cab driver then transported himself to the hospital for further treatment.
