Press Release

Platinum-selling Riser House/Sony Music Nashville recording artist Mitchell Tenpenny is kicking off the new year with a new song and music video as he releases “Breaking My Heart” today across all digital platforms. Listen here and watch here.

“Breaking My Heart,” written by Mitchell, Ashley Gorley, Chase McGill and Jordan Schmidt, is the follow up to his Top 10 radio smash “We Got History.” The video was filmed at various locations around Middle Tennessee and was directed by Zach Pigg.

The mid-tempo track spotlights Mitchell’s signature flawless whispered delivery as the song finds the male character lamenting over a breakup that won’t stop hurting in the face of an ex who is clearly moving on.

“Breaking My Heart” is the first of more new music to be released in 2024.

Tenpenny said, “ ‘Breaking My Heart’ was written about going through a break up and trying to get your ex off your mind. You keep trying to do things and go different places, but it seems like every single thing reminds you of them.

“I remember once, during a breakup, I kept seeing her specific car (make, model and color) all the time. They were just driving around me every day. I couldn’t escape it. So that concept was what I thought about when I came up with the idea for this song. There are things in life that happen that instantly bring you back to a time with someone else. Maybe a song comes on the radio that reminds you of them, maybe someone brings them up in a story, maybe it’s a bar you like to go to, or even a favorite food you like to eat. That’s what the heart of this song is truly about.

“Sometimes things are unescapable, especially after a breakup with someone you might have thought is the one. But all you’re asking for is a chance to get over them, but reminders of them keep showing up everywhere and there is nothing you can do about it.”

Tenpenny returns to Cancun, Mexico, this weekend as he participates in Luke Bryan’s “Crash My Playa” destination concert event for the second time. Last week, Mitchell performed his radio hit, “We Got History,” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and appeared on “CMT Campfire Sessions with Chris Young.”

Tenpenny is hitting the road this year with Luke Combs on the “Growin’ Up and Getting’ Old Tour,” and Jordan Davis’ “The Damn Good Time Tour." For all dates, including Tenpenny’s own headline shows, go to www.mitchel10penny.com
