Erie County assistant district attorney elected as vice president of Minority Bar Association of WNY

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn is proud to announce that Assistant District Attorney James Harrington was elected as the vice president of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York (MBAWNY). After completing his one-year term as vice president/president-elect, Harrington will serve as president of the organization starting in December 2024.

Harrington joined the Erie County District Attorney’s Office in July 2021. He most recently served in the office’s justice courts bureau where he handled cases in Amherst, Boston and Blasdell town courts. Starting next month, he will be assigned to the “Raise the Age” unit, which is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of the most serious and violent crimes committed by adolescent offenders (ages 16 and 17) and juvenile offenders (ages 15 and younger) in Youth Part.

Harrington is a native of Buffalo who graduated from Hutchinson Central Technical High School. In May 2019, he obtained his juris doctor from University at Buffalo School of Law. He received his undergraduate degree in legal studies form Kaplan University and recently completed his Master of Business Administration degree at D’Youville University. In addition to his involvement with MBAWNY, Harrington is a current member and former chairman of Black Men Talking, a local charitable organization.

The Minority Bar Association of WNY is a not-for-profit organization with members from diverse ethnic backgrounds who represent the varying races, cultures and beliefs in Buffalo and surrounding communities. According to the MBAWNY website, the organization’s mission is to “facilitate and advance equality and excellence in the legal profession; aid in the progress of minorities in the legal profession, address legal issues affecting minorities, encourage the personal and professional development of lawyers and students, advocate for the civil rights of all people and to enhance the legal services available to minority communities.”
