Today, 14,000 runners and walkers trotted down Delaware Avenue in celebration of the 128th annual YMCA Turkey Trot. This time-honored tradition is the longest consecutively run footrace in the world.

Michael Brannigan was the overall winner and fastest male, finishing the race at 24:59. The fastest female winner, Orchard Park's own Elle Orie, crossed the finish line at 27:23. Following the race, participants and volunteers celebrated at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center with a post-race party and award ceremony.

A press release noted, “Proceeds from the race are used to provide financial assistance to children and families in Western New York who otherwise are unable to participate in YMCA programs and services. Last year, the YMCA allocated more than $1.1 million to provide equitable access for child care, youth development, and healthy living programs to 4,500 local families. Money raised by the YMCA also goes towards community outreach programs and funds vital services and programs aimed towards youth development and healthy living.

“YMCA Buffalo Niagara thanks the community for its continued support. For a complete list of race results visit YMCATurkeyTrot.org.”

Locally founded in 1852, YMCA Buffalo Niagara is “a charitable, community-based organization committed to providing programs designed to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA's focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility is reflected in the variety of programs that are offered to all ages and abilities. A not-for-profit organization, YMCA Buffalo Niagara serves over 100,000 people annually through six membership branches and four camps throughout Western New York, as well as at over 40 community-based program sites.”
