Niagara County Legislator Irene Myers presented $1,500 in funding to scouting programs in Youngstown on Oct. 16 during an awards presentation to the Scouts, leaders and parents at the Youngstown Presbyterian Church. Cub Scout Pack 829 and Boy Scout Troop 829 each received $750 from the Niagara County Legislature.

“We are so grateful to Legislator Myers and the Niagara County Legislature for their financial support,” said Charlotte Clark, Cubmaster of Pack 829. “For the Cub Scouts, these funds help pay for handbooks, awards, campouts and outings that help make our program the best it can be.”

Nicholas Wesley, Troop 829’s senior patrol leader AND the group’s elected youth leader, spoke to the legislator during the presentation.

“Thank you for coming here to present this check to us,” he said. “We sincerely appreciate your continued support of our program for the second year in a row. The money helps us plan new adventures and update old equipment. It truly makes a difference, so thank you!”

“Legislator Myers' support of Scouting goes beyond funding,” Clark said. “When she talks to the Scouts, she reminds them that they are our community’s future leaders, and that Scouting will help them grow on the right path. It’s important for our youth to hear messages like this, because it plants the seeds of leadership and community service in them.”
